Apple, Dell, Nordstrom, Staples and Zappos provided the most aggressive guarantees for Christmas delivery this season.
StellaService Analysts were able to place orders from that group of retailers on Dec. 23, with delivery guaranteed by Christmas.
As we get closer to Christmas, retailers are looking for every opportunity to optimize sales. For the ecommerce channel, they may try to upgrade deliveries or encourage shoppers to buy online and pickup in-store.
Last year, Nordstrom, Staples and Zappos all guaranteed orders placed on Dec. 23. StellaService ordered packages to three regions in the U.S. to test retailers’ ability to hit their promise. Nordstrom and Staples both missed delivery to one region. Zappos managed to deliver on time in all regions.
This year, Nordstrom is touting “free rush delivery,” while Zappos doesn’t offer any information about the kind of shipping, only that orders placed by 1 p.m. PST on 12/23 are guaranteed. Both Dell and Staples promise delivery in one business day.
This year, StellaService placed orders for 40 of the largest online retailers at their latest date for guaranteed delivery by Christmas. Findings will be released on Dec. 26.
